Frequently Asked Questions

Well... Where do we start?   It's such a long list... let's start with the questions we ask you when you call.

Q: What is a web browser?
A: A web browser is a software program that allows you to view web pages.  The most common browsers (at the time this was written) are Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox.    Many other browsers exist - Netscape Communicator, Opera, Camino, Safari, etc.   All browsers have the same basic function of displaying web pages - the differences between them include how fast they render the page, how secure they are, and stability (how often they crash).    Any browser that you can get to run on your computer will work with our service.

Q: What is a mail client?
A: A program to allows you to view and send e-mail.   Here is where things get confusing - you can either use a mail program that you run on your computer to view/send mail or you can use a web browser.   Common mail programs include Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Mac Mail, etc.   Outlook and Outlook Express are two different programs - if your choices are between the two Microsoft products Outlook Express is generally the better choice.    Outlook is designed to work primarily with corporate Exchange servers and is considerably more complex than Outlook Express.

Q: Why when I hit 'Test Account Settings" in Outlook does it say "sending test message failed?

A:  You got me!  We have no idea why Outlook does this - but that's what it does.   You can safely ignore it and just hit 'finish' and then try sending a test message.
