The expire-mail script is a program that is run by a crontab monthly and is used to remove mail older than 180 days from the default Inbox on the server.
To determine if expire-mail has any effect on your mail it is important to distinguish between mail stored on Amplex's server and mail stored on your own computer. The rules are as follows:
This script will remove mail from your mailbox if you use:
This script will NOT remove mail from your mailbox if you use:
How can you tell if you use POP3 or IMAP? The simple answer is that nearly all customers using Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Mac Mail, Thunderbird or Eudora use POP3 as this is the default setup. Very few customers have these mail programs set up to use IMAP.
In that case you can ignore the expire-mail summary when it arrives in your mailbox.
Mail left in your Inbox is removed if the messages are older than 180 days when the expire-mail script runs. Mail is removed based on the date on the message - it does not matter if the mail has been read or is unread.
If you need to keep mail for long periods of time then you should move the mail to a folder other than your Inbox. Folders other than the Inbox are NOT affected by the expire-mail script. Messages in folders other than the Inbox are not automatically removed.

The expire-mail script is used to control the size of the mail spool at the server.
At the bottom of the expire-mail summary message is a list of any messages that were deleted. If no messages are listed then nothing was removed.
Expired mail is stored in a temporary folder for 30 days and is then deleted. If you need a message that was expired contact us. After 30 days we are unable to restore messages.
